Electron Paramagnetic Resonance

Electron paramagnetic resonance is used to study materials with unpaired electrons like free radicals and transition metal ions.

Bruker ELEXSYS X-band EPR spectrometer

The Bruker ELEXSYS is a research-grade electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometer used to detect and characterise species containing unpaired electrons, including free radicals, transition-metal ions and defects in materials. Operating at X-band frequencies, the instrument provides detailed information about electronic structure and the local chemical environment. Its variable-temperature system enables measurements at low temperatures, which are particularly important for studying transition metals and lanthanides.

Located in Room 287, Masson Building.

Bruker Magnettech ESR5000 benchtop EPR

The Bruker Magnettech ESR5000 is a compact X-band EPR spectrometer designed for accessible, routine analysis of paramagnetic species in solid and liquid samples. Its integrated analysis software supports applications such as free-radical detection and kinetic studies. Its benchtop design and straightforward operation make it well suited to new users, depending on their experimental requirements.

Located in Room 483, Bio21.

Access

Users are required to submit the training request via iLab booking system and attend the induction and training. All future measurements will be planned in collaboration with Prof Brendan Abrahams, with trained users having access to Assisted Use. Advanced users will be able to independently book Self Use measurement time which will require approval.
