In 2021-22, LEaRN is running a unique, international, cross-industry scoping study asking 'What innovative learning environment research should be the next priority?'

The Innovative Learning Environments (ILEs) and Student Experience Scoping Study leverages more than a decade of research by LEaRN and other key organisations and individuals around the world, which has built a body of knowledge about the architectural and pedagogic design of ILEs, how to evaluate their effectiveness, and how to assist teachers to utilise those spaces for positive impact on student learning.
The next logical step would seem to be gathering quality data around students’ actual experiences in these spaces. However, this assumption requires testing.

Objectives
To continue building a logical, comprehensive research base that supports design and effective use of ILEs, the next project must:
- have international relevance
- encompass the needs of education and allied industries, and
- create data that directly informs infrastructure development and best practices in learning spaces.
We will explore where existing international research into ILEs has led us, what must be done next, and how the next steps in research should be designed.

Outcomes
We're running workshops with over 200 representatives from academia, industry, and the education sector, across 17 countries, and recruiting another 80 global experts to participate in a Delphi study of material developed from the workshops.
The principal project output will be a defining white paper .

Impact
The scoping study will guide a suite of international grant applications, including an ARC proposal to potentially succeed the ILETC project.
