The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is the main statutory authority of the Australian Government responsible for medical research. The NHMRC distributes around ~$800 million annual MREA (Medical Research Endowment Account) to fund high quality health and medical research across a wide range of research disciplines and career stages.

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) is a $20 billion vehicle for investment in health and medical research. It represents the single largest boost to research funding in Australia’s history.
