Dr Marian Mahat has received a Dyason Fellowship to undertake a new project with Singapore’s National Institute of Education and the Ministry of Education. The objective of the fellowship is to develop teachers’ spatial competency through a co-design professional learning and action research pilot program in one government school in Singapore. This is expected to impact Singapore’s educational and infrastructure policies as well as the development of a whole-system professional learning initiative to develop teachers’ spatial competency.

Detailed project outline

  • Objectives
    • To develop teachers’ spatial competency through professional learning and teacher-led inquiry.
    • To develop a resource guide for building teachers’ spatial competency, in collaboration with Singapore’s National Institute of Education and the Ministry of Education.
  • Outcomes

    The fellowship will directly address the professional development needs of educators by keeping them up to date with relevant content, skills, and pedagogy, which supports their professional growth. The innovative study contributes significantly to yield positive social and educational outcomes by supporting Singaporean teachers with the development of their spatial competency to improve the learning and outcomes of students.

  • Impact

    This fellowship provides significant academic, practice and policy impacts, which will further enhance cement the relationship between the Melbourne Graduate School of Education and Singapore’s National Institute of Education.
