Project title: Better predictions of transcription factor activity in footprinting
Background: Transcription factor footprinting is a very powerful technique for predicting the binding activity of hundreds of transcription factors at once, but it is dramatically limited by the fact that many closely-related transcription factors share predicted binding sites due to the close evolutionary relationships between them. The goal of this project is to explore different means of processing existing models of transcription factor motifs to improve computational predictions of binding activity, and identify groups of transcription factors that act cooperatively to regulate gene expression.
Please note that, unusually for the lab, this project has no "wet" laboratory component!
