Enabling discoveries using high throughput functional genomics technologies
Abstract
Talk will detail our CRISPR, RNAi, compound screening platforms, high content imaging and proteomics (Reverse Phase protein array). The laboratory focuses extensively on quantitative phenotypic high content imaging strategies. The facility also houses an Australia-first Reverse Phase Protein Array platform. All platforms are open to biomedical researchers Australia-wide, enabling discovery-based research projects.
Bio
Associate Professor Kaylene Simpson is Head of the Victorian Centre for Functional Genomics (VCFG) at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia. The VCFG is a fully automated, high throughput facility enabling functional interrogation of the genome using human and mouse short interfering RNA against the protein coding and long non-coding RNA genomes, miRNAs and CRISPR gene editing approaches in pooled and arrayed screening formats. A/Prof Simpson established the facility, open to Biomedical researchers Australia-wide, in 2008 after a successful postdoctoral period at Harvard Medical School, Boston USA. She has an international reputation in the area of functional genomics using genome-wide RNAi screens and phenotypic high content screening. Each screen in the VCFG is overseen by Kaylene and her team of cell biology and automation experts. She is currently editor of ASSAY, Drug Development Technologies and incoming president of the Society for Biomolecular Imaging and Informatics (SBI2).
