BOOK NOW for August 1 'Researching the Arts'
You are invited to a CoVA (Centre of Visual Art) Graduate Academy panel discussion on Thursday 1 August, hosted by Buxton Contemporary.
"Research is the process of going up alleys to see if they are blind." - Marston Bates
Research in the arts happens in a liminal space between and around artists and their creations, whether they be paintings, sculptures, performances, poems, films, novels or plays. But how do researchers map the arts?
This panel will explore questions about the role of researchers in the arts. The process of research is often an isolated one. How can arts researchers make connections with others in their field or across disciplines? What avenues are available in the quest to publish? What skills and techniques can researchers employ as they strive for new insights into the arts? What employment opportunities exist within and beyond academia?
Presented by Matthew Martin, Lecturer in the School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne and former curator of International Decorative Arts at the NGV; Sophie Matthiesson, Curator of International Art at the NGV; and Olivia Meehan, Co-ordinator of Object-based Learning at the University of Melbourne. Convened by Belinda Scerri.
