Professor Sally Smart

Sally Smart is a Vice-Chancellors Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne and significant contemporary Australian artist recognized for her large-scale cut-out assemblage installations, her practice engages identity politics and the relationships between the body, thought and culture including trans-national ideas that have shaped cultural history. Professor Smart was the 2012 Sackler Fellow Artist-in-Residence at the University of Connecticut and received an Australia Council Fellowship form 2012-2014. She was a Trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria from 2001-2008 and is currently a Board Member (Deputy Chair) of the National Association for the Visual Arts. Smart has exhibited extensively throughout Australia and internationally. Recent exhibitions and projects include: NGA Play, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Australia (2018-19); The Choreography of Cutting, Postmasters ROMA at 1/9 Unosunove, Rome, Italy (2018); Prima Visione #4, (OFCA) International, SaRanG, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2017); The Choreography of Cutting, Postmasters Gallery, New York, USA (2016); Conversation: Endless Acts in Human History (with Entang Wiharso) Galeri Nasional Indonesia, Jakarta (2016).
