Eugenia Lim

Eugenia Lim is an Australian artist of Chinese–Singaporean descent whose practice sits at the intersection of performance, installation and video to explore belonging and alienation in a globalised world. Lim's work draws from historical and contemporary art, performance, moving image, text, spatial practice and geopolitics to consider how diverse bodies and identities shape/are shaped by their environments, work, technology, economic systems and capital flows.
Her work has been exhibited internationally at festivals and venues including the Tate Modern, Dark MOFO, ACCA, Melbourne Festival, Next Wave, GOMA, ACMI, firstdraft, FACT Liverpool and EXiS Seoul. She has been artist-in-residence with the Experimental Television Centre NY, Bundanon Trust, 4A Beijing Studio and the Robin Boyd Foundation. Her work is held in private and public collections internationally. She is a 2018–2020 Gertrude Contemporary studio artist and in 2019, is the incoming co-director (with Mish Grigor and Lara Thoms) of 25-year-old artistic company Aphids. She holds a Bachelor of Media Arts (Hons.), RMIT University, and a Bachelor of Creative Arts, VCA. Lim co-directed the inaugural Channels Festival (2013), was founding editor of Assemble Papers (2011–2016) and co-founded temporal art collective Tape Projects (2007–2013).
Recent career highlights include: Eugenia Lim: The Ambassador presented by Museums and Galleries of NSW and 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art which launched at Adelaide//International 2019 and will tour to eight museums in 2019–2021; The National 2019: New Australian Art, curated by Isobel Parker Philip, Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Clothilde Bullen and Anna Davis; How to: Democracy, curated by Adam Porter and Michael Dagostino, C-A-C, 2019; ON DEMAND at Gertrude Glasshouse in 2019; National Anthem, curated by Kate Just, Buxton Contemporary, 2019; finalist in Barcelona's LOOP Discover Award 2019; official selection for 36th Kasseler Dokfest, Germany 2019; Unfinished Business, curated by Paola Balla, Max Delany, Annika Kristensen, Vicki McInnes, Julie Ewington and Elvis Richardson, ACCA, 2017. In 2020, Lim is included in Octopus 20: Future Anterior curated by Nik Papas at Gertrude Contemporary, and will lead the world premiere of APHIDS performance Easy Riders. Lim co-founded Channels Festival, is the co-director (with Mish Grigor and Lara Thoms) of experimental art company APHIDS, and co-wrote and hosted ABC iView's Video Becomes Us.
