Dr Lyndell Brown

Lyndell Brown is an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne and since 1989 has worked in collaboration as one artist with Charles Green. Working within intersections of painting, photography and digital reproduction, the artists explore the complex nature of visual and cultural memory structures and the connections between artistic memory and representation. In 2007 they were Australia's Official War Artists, deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. The following years of research and work culminated in the 2014 book Framing Conflict: Contemporary War and Aftermath Macmillan Palgrave) co-authored with Charles Green and Jon Cattapan; this area of her research has been supported by two Australia Research Council Discovery Grants. Her work with Green is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of South Australia, Australian War Memorial, Art Gallery of West Australia, National Gallery of Victoria as well as many other public and private collections.
