Dr Thomas Berghuis

Thomas Berghuis is a Principal Fellow in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne and art historian and curator. An eminent scholar and researcher of contemporary Chinese and Indonesian art, Berghuis was the inaugural Director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara, Indonesia (MACAN). From 2013-2015 he was the Robert H. N. Curator of Chinese Art at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and was previously a lecturer at the University of Sydney and the University of Amsterdam. Since 2008 he has been on the Advisory Committee of the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Sydney and was founding Associate Curator for Edges of Elswhere, a three-year exhibition project with the Sydney Festival focusing on community engagement and art across Asia-Pacific.
