Senior Lecturer in Art
Victorian College of the Arts

Stephen Haley is a Senior Lecturer in Art at the Victorian College of the Arts, a visual artist and writer. Working primarily with painting and digital media including 3D software, his work investigates space - both actual and virtual - and the increasing blurred line between the two. Recent work has particularly focussed on the two fundamental spatial forces that uniquely demark the contemporary era - rapid global urbanization and the birth of the digital era. Stephen's work features in wide number of national and international collections and has won several awards and residencies including the Deacon, Graham and James/Arts 21 Residency Award, the ANZ Visual Arts Fellowship Award, the R M McGivern Acquisitive Prize for Painting, the Australia Council Visual Arts Board studio residency in Los Angeles, the Australia Council Visual Arts Board New Work Grant, The Rupert Bunny Arts Fellowship and an Arts Victoria New Work Grant. The work has been collected broadly by public institutions and private collections. He is represented by Mars Gallery and internationally through Artitled Gallery, Netherlands and Lumas Galleries, International. He has lectured in Art History and Theory as well as Painting Studio at various institutions and has been based at the Victorian College of the Arts since 2000. He was the School of Art Research Coordinator (MFA) from 2008 - 2016.
