David Sequeira is Director, Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery, Victorian College of the Arts and an artist and researcher. His research and practise incorporates painting, sculpture, installation, photography, curatorship and visual arts policy, investigating colour, geometry and contemplation. He is recipient of several residencies and awards including the Australia Council for the Arts studio residency in Paris, the Collex Museum of Contemporary Art acquisitive prize, Artist in residence at the University of Texas, Dallas and the Wyndham Art Prize. Prior to his current role as Director of the Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery, Sequeira held senior positions in a range of public cultural institutions including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery and Old Parliament House, Canberra. He is the former Artistic Director, Audience Engagement at the National Film and Sound Archive and was the artistic consultant for the Revitalisation of Greater Dandenong. This project, including his 500 metre installation of coloured lights ‘Gateway’ has won several state and national awards for urban design and public art.
