UNLIKELY Journal and ART + AUSTRALIA are seeking submissions!
Unlikely is currently seeking scholarly contributions for Issue 6, with the theme of National Anthem.
Unlikely is transdisciplinary peer reviewed journal for creative arts which aims to open unexpected spaces for artistic exchange and scholarly conversation across mediums, disciplines and continents. An experiment in form, Unlikely engages its audience and contributors by creating issues around a featured exhibition of visual art. The journal presents artist’s reflections on their works in the exhibition and invites broader scholarly contributions that extend the exhibition themes.
Issue 6 builds on the exhibition National Anthem at Buxton Contemporary, featuring twenty-four artists from across Australia that engage in critically examining issues of national identity.
The journal issue will be co-edited by Dr Ali Gumillya Baker, an academic and artist featured in the exhibition and Dr Kate Just, curator of the National Anthemat Buxton Contemporary and co-leader of COVA’s Feminism and Intersectionality Theme group.
Abstracts with subject “National Anthem Proposal” due by May 6 2019. Authors will be notified by May 13, 2019 and final versions for peer-review are due by October 28 2019.

We're interested in hearing the cases for and against portrayals and prospects of the outside; the historical itinerary and investigations of the outside; maps of it, expeditions oriented toward it, and visitors from it.
Please submit a short abstract (approx. 300 words) as a proposal for consideration to the editor by 30 April 2019. All essays are requested at around 2,000 words. Successful proposals will then need to be submitted in full version by 30 June 2019. A writer's fee of $1,000 (plus GST if applicable) will be paid. [PUBLISHED OCTOBER 2019]
