Healthy City Leadership

Supporting the World Health Organization in driving healthy and sustainable urban governance

The Melbourne Centre for Cities collaborates with the World Health Organization’s Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) to support a greater focus on the role of city leadership in driving urban health in the region. In 2019 the Centre partnered with WPRO on a technical review of the progress of the Regional Framework for Urban Health in the Western Pacific 2016 –2020 as well as in planning WPRO capacity building initiatives on city engagement and leadership in the region. This collaboration builds especially on WHO’s commitment to driving the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the region and beyond, as for instance represented by the 2016 Shanghai Consensus.
