David Bissell

Biography

David is Associate Professor in the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in the Faculty of Science. As Director of Research Capability, David is excited about growing research capacity in the Centre, especially through fostering inter-faculty collaboration, as well as developing programs for graduate and career researchers.

David is a geographer by training, and his research explores how changing forms of work mobility are transforming urban life. He has recently completed an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship that explored the social and cultural dimensions of the gig economy in Melbourne.

He is author of Transit Life: How Commuting Is Transforming Our Cities (MIT Press, 2018), and co-editor of Negative Geographies: Exploring the Politics of Limits (U Nebraska Press, 2021), the Routledge Handbook of Mobilities(2014), and Stillness in a Mobile World (Routledge, 2011). He is Managing Editor of Social & Cultural Geography and Steering Committee Chair for AusMob, the Australian Mobilities Research Network.
